  Looking Back It's crazy to go back to my very first post on here and remember how nervous I was to start blogging for this class. I think this blog and my professional website will be the largest online presence I have, since I've always tried to lay low online. If this whole project is one of the first things people find of me online, I would be completely okay with that! It's definitely better than my first search result being my address. Going back to my first blog post, I was hopeful for a good experience, and I must say it's been pretty great! Although I did not get to know my classmates in person, I felt like I was able to learn about my peers through their posts and comments, and I think that was one of the highlights of this experience.   What is Copyright and Fair Use? According to the U.S. Copyright Office , copyright was established to protect the creative work of an author/artist/creator. The work of an artist must be an independent creation, meaning the work is original and not copying another's work. With copyright law, the creator is given the right to authorize reproductions, variations, and performances of their work. These rights protect the author for as long as they live plus an additional 70 years! About Me Hello everyone! My name is Monica (she/her), and I am a Youth Service Associate at my local library with a background in biology. I've only been at my library for a few months, but I already love the work I'm doing. This is my third semester at Dominican University. So far, I've only taken the required courses, so I am quite excited to get to choose what electives to take. I am torn between learning more about the different options I have as an MLIS student or focusing on how to expand within the Youth Service Department. Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending time with my significant other, friends, and family. This usually consists of rock climbing or playing board games.
